Location
Cape Town
is a beautiful city that serves as a gateway to Southern
Africa. Situated on a peninsula, it boasts a range of picturesque
mountains and sandy-white beaches. The city is fairly easy to
navigate using the sea and Table Mountain as your major
landmarks. Affectionately
known as the “Mother City”, Cape
Town is relaxed and friendly, with a vibrant, holiday
atmosphere.
Transport
Our students prefer using the train or the convenient
”mini bus” taxis. A single trip will cost between R3.00 and R6.00 and is a
cheap and efficient way of traveling. These services should be used exclusively
during the day, as traveling alone at night is not advisable.
Private taxis are available 24 hours a day and are
recommended for evening travel.
If you are interested in buying a car, we can
recommend a reputable dealer who will buy the car back from you at the end of
your stay.
Safety
Cape
Town is generally a safe and friendly
city. As with any major city, students should observe certain common sense
safety precautions. Try not to carry large amounts of cash, and be discreet with
personal items such as jewellery, cameras, etc. Avoid deserted areas,
especially at night, and always park in designated, well-lit areas. Keep your
doors locked while driving and store belongings in the boot of your car when
parked.
Seasons
Cape Town’s
climate is generally comparable to that of the Mediterranean region.
Summer is generally from late October to March and is
dry and hot. Winters are fairly cold and wet and the rainy months are June to
August. Spring and autumn are mild and remain enjoyable months to visit Cape Town. Cape Town is busiest
during December and January, when local schools are on holiday, although the
tourist season extends from November to April.
